New Delhi: Prominent medico’s body, Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum (PMSF) on Monday announced a nationwide campaign against leveling false allegations on a pro-people’s doctor M A Anwar by the Delhi Police in connection with February northeast Delhi riots. It said the attack on Dr Anwar is a frontal attack on a doctors committed in service of humanity.
Expressing complete solidarity with Dr Anwar, PMSF alleged it is conspiracy of Delhi police to implicate him in the riot cases.
PMSF organized an online meeting of its representatives from different states to discuss the issue of ongoing harassment of Dr Anwar, the proprietor of Al-Hind hospital located in New Mustafabad locality of northeast Delhi, on the charge that he provoked the riots by way of his speech in a dharna against CAA-NRC by describing it as anti-Muslim.
It is notable that these charges have been cast against Dr Anwar in the charge sheet filed with respect to FIR No. 65. This is a clear indication of the intent to implicate Dr Anwar in a conspiracy case in ‘blank cheque’ FIR number 59 which has left ample scope of implicating all manner of activists in the conspiracy, said Dr Harjeet Bhatti, National Convener, PMSF.
The investigation regarding FIR 59 is ongoing and many student activists like Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita of Pinjara Tod, Safoora Zargar and other student activists from Jamia, who have been named in the FIR have already been arrested.
The real reason behind the harassment of Dr Anwar is the remarkable role he played in providing succour to the victims of riots without any distinction of religion, while the government had sought to derail that, he added.
Dr Anwar was acknowledged by no less than the High Court of Delhi which gave a detailed hearing to Dr Anwar in a late night sitting and passed orders for reaching out the much needed help to the hospital for providing relief to the people.
The whole issue was deliberated upon in detail in the meeting after which it was decided that a campaign shall be undertaken by PMSF in medical campuses across the country to mobilize opinion on this issue, said Dr Vikas Bajpai. Executive member. He said various PMSF units shall write to appropriate administrative authorities demanding the withdrawal of false allegations against Dr Anwar.
There was a unanimous opinion in the meeting that government should desist from hidings its failings behind a false narrative where the victims themselves are being framed as oppressors, he added.
Overjoyed to see Medical fraternity exhibiting their solidarity. Would like to join.
