Muslim man lynched to death for protesting tree felling in Jharkhand

A man identified as Shamim Ansari was beaten to death on Friday for protesting against illegal tree felling in Jharkhand’s Gumla district. An FIR has been registered against 35 persons and five individuals have been arrested so far.

Shamim Ansari, the head of the Raikera Forest Committee, was lynched after he stopped some people from cutting trees. A forest guard who was with Ansari managed to flee the spot.

Gumla Sub-divisional Police Officer Manish Chandra Lal told PTI that all the accused belong to a single village in Bharno block of the district.

“We have so far arrested five people in this connection and they have been sent to jail on Saturday,” he added.
