National Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) has recently taken decisive action against several news channels for allegedly breaching the prescribed Code of Ethics and Broadcasting Standards. The regulatory body, responsible for overseeing the content aired on television and digital platforms, has initiated measures to address concerns related to the dissemination of news that deviates from ethical standards.
A few TV channels have been penalised for their news shows by the News Broadcasting & Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) as per reports.
Activist Indrajeet Ghorpade had earlier pointed out inaccuracies and lack of impartiality, neutrality, objectivity as per the Code of Ethics & Broadcasting Standards. The NBDSA has taken action basis this.
The NBDSA’s move comes in response to a surge in complaints and public outcry regarding the content aired by certain news channels, which has been deemed sensationalist, biased, and in violation of established broadcasting norms. The regulatory authority, armed with the mandate to ensure responsible and fair journalism, has decided to enforce its guidelines rigorously to maintain the integrity of news reporting.
The violations primarily revolve around the distortion of facts, lack of objectivity, and the potential to incite discord among communities. Some news programs have been accused of sensationalizing news events to boost viewership, thereby sacrificing accuracy and impartiality in the process. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the propagation of misinformation, leading to a deterioration in public trust and confidence in the media.
To address these issues, the NBDSA has initiated a thorough investigation into the practices of the implicated news channels. The authority has employed a multi-pronged approach, involving content analysis, interviews with relevant stakeholders, and scrutiny of the channels’ editorial policies. This comprehensive assessment aims to determine the extent of the alleged violations and identify responsible parties within the channels.
Simultaneously, the NBDSA has issued warnings to the news channels involved, cautioning them against further breaches of the Code of Ethics and Broadcasting Standards. The regulatory body has outlined specific areas where the channels need to rectify their practices, emphasizing the importance of accurate reporting, unbiased analysis, and responsible journalism. Failure to comply with these directives could lead to severe penalties, including fines and potential suspension of broadcasting licenses. ( With Agency Inputs )
