New Delhi, The son of a Rickshaw Puller and housemaid has been selected for one-month training programme at the world most famous track and field club, Racers track club in Kingston, Jamaica. Nisar Ahmad a 16-year-old, hails from the Bada Bagh Slum, Azadpur, New Delhi, has been selected along with the 14 budding athletes.
Nisar studied at the Government Boys secondary school located at Ashok Nagar, New Delhi. His father is a rickshaw puller and his mother works as a domestic help and his family income is barely Rs 5000 per month; but despite the persistent poverty and hardship. Nisar who lives in a one room set with his parents somehow managed to achieve his goals.
Basically, Racers Track Club is the home track of the eight-time Olympic Gold medalist and world-renowned athlete Usain Bolt. The selected athletes belong to the age group of 15-18 year and hailed from the different state including Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Odisha and New Delhi. The selected candidates would undergo a month-long training process in Jamaica, and the initiative has been taken by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in collaboration of Anglian Medal Hunt; a sports management company.
