Odisha Police detained BJP’s Khurda MLA candidate, Prasanta Jagadev, for allegedly vandalising an electronic voting machine (EVM), disrupting polling during the sixth phase on Saturday.
Jagadev and his supporters had gone to a polling booth at Kuanripatna in Begunua assembly constituency while polling was underway in the afternoon.
He argued with polling officials, after which he allegedly vandalized the EVM and left. The police chased him, intercepting his vehicle, which also carried BJP’s Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha candidate Aparajita Sarangi.
Jagadev has been detained at Begunia police station.
The Hindu nationalist politician, however, denied the allegations against him and sat on dharna inside the police station. He claimed the EVM got damaged after it accidentally fell on the ground.
The saffron leader has made news for his unruly conduct in the past too, Indian Express reported. ( With Agencies Inputs )
