In a significant operation, the Kerala Police uncovered a substantial cache of 770 kg explosives from the residences of a local Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader and his relative in Poyiloor, Kannur district. This discovery has raised serious concerns about the potential risks posed by such large quantities of explosives in a residential area.
The explosives were discovered at the homes of Vadakayil Pramod, a local RSS leader, and his relative Vadakayil Shanta. Pramod, who is currently absconding, is believed to be connected to the seized materials, indicating a concerning connection between extremist elements and illegal weaponry.
The operation, led by Kolavalloor Police Inspector Sumeet Kumar and Sub-Inspector Sobin, was initiated based on confidential information received by the police. The significant seizure prompted the police to launch legal proceedings, with two cases registered in connection with the incident. This proactive response reflects the gravity of the situation and the determination of law enforcement to address such threats effectively.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were intended for illegal distribution,” Kolavalloor Police stated to Maktoob, highlighting the seriousness of the potential threat posed by these materials. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the safety and security of the region amidst these concerning developments, with law enforcement agencies remaining vigilant to prevent any potential misuse of such dangerous substances.
However, there are conflicting reports regarding the intended use of these explosives. Speaking to Vartha Bharati over a phone call, Kolavalloor SHO stated that while the reports of the recovery were true, he added that the explosives were meant to be used for firecrackers during the Ugadi festival. This contradictory information raises questions about the true motives behind storing such a large quantity of explosives and the need for thorough investigations to uncover the facts.
The SHO also confirmed that Pramod was linked to RSS and was one of their local leaders, indicating a possible connection between extremist groups and illegal activities involving explosives. This revelation underscores the importance of monitoring and addressing extremist activities to maintain peace and security in the region.
The discovery of such a substantial quantity of explosives had sparked alarm among locals, especially as the Lok Sabha elections draw near. The potential implications of such discoveries on public safety and the political landscape cannot be understated, highlighting the need for heightened security measures and comprehensive investigations into the matter.
Last year, another incident involving RSS-affiliated individuals making bombs resulted in severe injuries. A youth named Vishnu (20), associated with the RSS, suffered grave injuries after an explosion occurred during bomb-making near Eranjolipalam in Kannur. Vishnu’s hands were severely injured in the blast, highlighting the dangers associated with illegal activities involving explosives and the need for stringent law enforcement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Let the police investigate properly and punish the leaders behind it without any fear or favor.
