Lucknow, May 19: The claim of the family members that Khalid Mujahid was killed by policemen escorting him and he did not die of heart attack as the police claimed has now been confirmed by the post-mortem conducted on the 2007 court blast accused Mujahid who died yesterday evening in police van while on way from Faizabad court to Lucknow.
Talking to Muslim Mirror this morning from Barabanki, Adv. Mohammad Shoaib who has been fighting the case of Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi, another accused of the court blast, said: “The post-mortem report shows several marks of torture and serious injuries on the body of Khalid Mujahid. There is deep swelling on his face. Nails are dark. Signs of strangulation on neck are visible. There are signs of bleeding from nose and mouth. There are injury marks on thighs.”
Since 2007 Adv. Shoaib has been with Khalid Mujahid whenever he was presented in court. Yesterday also he was in Faizabad court where Khalid Mujahid was presented for hearing. He pointed to a suppressed part of the incident yesterday. “Last time I met Mujahid in Faizabad court premises it was 3:15 pm, he was in in his usual Kurta Pyjama when the police escort team presented him in court and took him back for Lucknow via Barabanki. But when in the night we reached Barabanki hospital where the police had brought his body I was surprised to see that Mujahid was in T-shirt and a lower (a rather long underwear).”
Following the post-mortem, Zaheer Alam Falahi, Mujahid’s uncle lodged FIR in Barabanki in the wee hours at 3:30 am today. The FIR has named some police officers of the time when Khalid Mujahid was arrested in 2007 and the escorting police team of yesterday. In all the FIR has made accused 42 people including Vikram Singh, who was DGP in 2007 and Brij Lal, the ADG of that time.
Spokesperson of Rihai Manch, the civil group which has been on forefront of the movement for the release of Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi, told Muslim Mirror from outside the post-mortem house in Barabanki just half an hour ago that about one thousand people have gathered outside the post-mortem house and making slogans against the UP Govt.
He said his Rihai Manch and people demand CBI inquiry into the death of Khalid Mujahid, immediate arrest of the people made accused in the FIR, compensation to the victim family and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav will have to visit his home in Jaunpur only then his body will be buried.
