Lucknow, May 29: Rihai Manch has termed the refusal of compensation check by Khalid Mujahid’s family as a slap on the face of Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh and the bunch of clerics who were brokering ‘deal’ without ensuring justice to the victim family. UP cabinet minister Parasnath Yadav along with Jaunpur DM today went to Mujahid’s home in Mariahu in Jaunpur to hand over the check worth Rs 6 lakh but the family rejected check.
“It is a slap on the face of Samajwadi Party government and the middlemen clerics that the family of Khalid Mujahid has refused to accept the compensation check which cabinet minister Parasnath Yadav had gone to hand over to the family. With this incident, Samajwadi Party government should understand that Muslims are now not fighting for compensation but for justice,” Shahnawaz Alam and Rajiv Yadav, spokespersons of Rihai Manch.
Today the indefinite Dharna of Rihai Manch completed 8th day. The group reiterated their demands for the immediate implementation of RD Nimesh Commission and arrest of the police officers named in the FIR filed by Khalid Mujahid’s family.
Khalid Mujahid was a resident of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. He was picked in Dec. 2007 for the court blasts the same year in the state. The government appointed commission RD Nimesh Commission had enquired into his arrest and found it as illegal and fake. Following the report, the family and human rights activists demanded release of Khalid Mujahid. In last two weeks, the state government had given indication of his release. But on 18th May he died in mysterious circumstances in police van when he was being brought from Faizabad court to Lucknow jail.
A delegation of Students Islamic Organisation of India today visited the dharna site and remained there for the day to support the demand of the Rihai Manch.
Today’s dharna was addressed by Adv. Mohammad Shoaib, president Rihai Manch, Magsaysay award winner and noted civil rights activist Sandeep Panday and others.
