President of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MKK)  and MLA Prof MH Jawahirullah, has said that the renaming of Mugahal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan to Amrit Udayan was a “malicious decision.”

“This attitude of the BJP is blatant religious fundamentalism. Changing the name just because of the term Mughal shows the intolerant mindset of the Union Government,” said Jawahirullah.

He said that “the Union Government has been indulging in such nefarious initiatives purely with political motives and the objective of diverting the country’s major issues.”

“If we are to take the justification of the BJP to its logical conclusion President of India should not live in that building. The President will have to leave the mansion, considering it an expression of servile attitude,” he said.

On January 28, the gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the president’s official residence, were given a common name as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations. The “Mughal Gardens” road sign was taken down and hauled away using bulldozers.

“On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the President of India has given a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as Amrit Udyan,” Deputy Press Secretary to the President Navika Gupta had said.

Three Persian and Mughal-inspired gardens can be found at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The public and the authorities dubbed the garden in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir that served as the model for this one “Mughal Gardens.” However, the gardens were never referred to as “Mughal Gardens.”

The 15-acre Amrit Udyan is frequently referred to as the “heart” of the presidential palace.

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) welcomed the move.

Sambit Patra, a BJP spokesperson, praised the “historic decision” of the Narendra Modi administration and urged “coming out of the slavery mentality'” in “Amrit Kal” (golden era). “In order to come out of slavery mentality’ in ‘Amritkal’, Another historic decision of the Modi government… The Mughal Garden in Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be known as Amrit Udyan,” he tweeted in Hindi.

“Our hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji sets an example by renaming the iconic gardens at the President House as ‘Amrit Udyan.’ A powerful symbol of our nation’s progress and a reflection of a brighter future for #NewIndia. ,” Union minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

Bihar BJP leader Devesh Kumar had said,”Symbol of slavery eliminated. In order to come out of the slavery mentality in amrit kal, another historic decision of Modi government. The Mughal Garden located in Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be known as Amrit Udyan.”

  1. Brahmins collaborated with Mughals, with Britishers when Mughals become weak and destroyed or manipulated many Mughal identities. Pakistan formed as a “Muslim” nation that time remaining rich Muslims in India become poor due to many reasons. But in Pakistan, poor remain poor due to rich people’s feudal system like policies there. Even Pakistan politics influenced from outside powers, and Indian Muslims even today not interested to come on a single platform to answer their issues. Then how can you expect Mughal garden to be Mughal. Truth can not be digested, sometimes even funny.
