Reports of Delhi Minority Commission and other groups on Delhi riots ‘Fictitious’: Centre’s Affidavit in High Court

In response to a complaint regarding fact-finding reports on the Delhi Riots that the Delhi Minority Commission (DMC) had published, the Centre informed the Delhi High Court that the report appeared to be a “selective and biased approach” taken by the Committee in order to sway public opinion in favour of a particular community.

The Centre said in an affidavit that the reports released by DMC and other private agencies and organisations were done so to support narratives from vested interests and shape public opinion.

According to the Centre, evidence is being gathered and recorded by private and extrajudicial commissions under the guise of statutory inquiries or investigations.

“Private organisations first create a social media storm and generate a biased narrative accusing the government of the day of being the mastermind of such offence against particular caste,” it submitted.

The reports, according to the authorities, were a cover-up for the crime, and the “true accused” were made out to be victims.

“After conducting such exercise they come out with a completely biased report which in most of the cases is found to report acting as a cover-up to the offence and portraying real accused as victims of the crimes,” the centre said.

The Delhi Minority Commission’s report, according to the federal government, is not only unlawful but also false and was produced by individuals with “some and evil purposes.” Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, and (at the time) Lt. Governor Anil Baijal received the 134-page report.

The bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad was notified that another bench of identical cases was hearing the case while it was being heard. As a result, the court assigned the case to Justice Siddharth Mardol-led bench. The case will now be heard on February 10, according to the bar and bench.
