A Muslim group named as Idara-e-Shariah Jharkhand has called on political parties in the state to send one Muslim candidate to the Rajya Sabha, Urdu newspaper Roznama Rashtriya Sahara reported on 26 May.
The group stated that secular parties in the state have not sent any single Muslim candidate to the Rajya Sabha till now despite the same being demanded continuously by the community.
Elections are about to take place in Jharkhand on 10 June for two Rajya Sabha seats. Two seats in the upper house will be vacant as the tenures of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Mahesh Poddar, who were elected from Jharkhand, is coming to an end on 7 June.
According to the aforementioned report, the group held a meeting at the Madhuban market in Ranchi, which was attended by local Muslim clerics apart from leaders and members of the group. On this occasion, they demanded that political parties should send one Muslim from the state to the Rajya Sabha.
