On Wednesday, the Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, criticized the government for what he claimed was misleading information regarding the situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at Nawa-e-Subha, Omar voiced his concerns about the ongoing security challenges in the region.
“We are pained to see the targeted attacks in Kashmir. Whenever statements about the improvement in the situation are being issued, we are witnessing the targeted attacks. Both civilians as well as police personnel are becoming the victims,” Omar asserted, highlighting the recurring violence in the region.
He further called on the government to be more transparent in its communication, stating, “The government should speak the truth about the situation in Kashmir. Sometimes police are targeted, sometimes civilians. The situation is not normal, while the government is trying to mislead the people.”
Kashmir has witnessed three major incidents of “target killings” in the past few days, with the latest involving the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir Police officer in Kralpora village, Baramulla, North Kashmir, marking the third attack in as many days.
On Sunday Inspector Masroor Ahmad of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was shot at point-blank range while playing cricket in Srinagar’s Eidgah area, succumbing to his injuries. On the same day, in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a non-local laborer was killed in Nowpora village.
“The enemy wants to create violence here in the Valley. We have lost so many people in the era of violence. The incidents that have taken place recently must be seen from the same prism. Since the terrorists are failing, they cannot see peace returning to the valley. These incidents indicate that they don’t want peace to prevail here. We are working hard to completely stop all kinds of violence in the valley,” said former DGP of J&K Police Dilbagh Singh.
