The Press Club of India (PCI) has dismissed the allegations made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani as ‘baseless’. During a press conference of Muslim leaders held in New Delhi on Friday under the auspices of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Madani raised concerns about the freedom of the media.
Madani alleged that, “when I attempted to organise a conference at the Press Club of India (PCI), I received a response stating that we couldn’t hold a press conference on this particular topic. So, I ask, which topics are deemed suitable for discussion and which are not?”
The Press Club of India has issued a clarification on its Twitter account, stating:
‘It has come to our notice some members of the community leaders are making unfounded allegations that the PCI denied permission to hold the press conference on February 2”.
Fact is organiser was insisting on a particular time slot which could not be given as it was booked already for another press conference. PCI offered them to hold it at 11am-2:30pm — The organisers informed that we will be holding it at different place. So the question of denial doesn’t arise. — We strongly condemn the attitude of maligning institution like the PCI which is always in the forefront to uphold the values of Indian constitution, especially freedom of expression’.
