Patna, May 12: The answer can be given only by the Bihar government of Nitish Kumar. Two websites of the state government carry a list of all chief ministers of Bihar since 1937 – but the first chief minister (then called premier) Mohammad Yunus is missing from both lists. Is it deliberate or by mistake?
The official website of Bihar Assembly has a list of all chief ministers since 1937 when the first Assembly election was held. While Mohammad Yunus was sworn in as first Premier of Bihar and he ran the government around four months, but the list starts with Shri Krishna Singh of Congress.
After the 1937 elections, Congress had emerged as the first largest party. The Muslim Independent Party of Mohammad Yunus was the second largest party. As the Congress did not come up to claim formation of the government due to some reasons, Mohammad Yunus was given opportunity to form the government. Yunus took oath as first Premier of Bihar province on 1st April 1937. He led the minority government of his party till 20th July 1937 when Shri Krishna Singh of Congress was sworn in as new Premier after the party resolved differences and agreed to form the government.
But the official website of the Bihar Assembly starts with Shri Krishna Singh. Not only the website of Bihar Assembly, the website of Bihar chief minister also does not mention Mohammad Yunus. While the Assembly website list starts from 1937 the list of chief ministers on the website of Bihar chief minister starts from 1946.
It is very interesting that though Mohammad Yunus ran his minority government for about four months but is missing from the lists of chief ministers Nitish Kumar whose first government could last just seven days (03-03-2000 -10-03-2000) but his name is available in both lists.
