Lucknow, May 30: The RD Nimesh Commission report on the arrest of Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi is the first government report in the country which reveals how Intelligence Bureau and other security agencies jointly implicate innocent Muslim youths in terror cases, said Kavita Srivastava, eminent human rights activist and national secretary of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) while attending the 9th day dharna of Rihai Manch here in front of the state Assembly.
Asking the Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh why it is afraid of the Nimesh Commission report, Kavita said not releasing the report reveals the anti-Muslim policy of Akhilesh Yadav government. “This is not socialism, it is Modi-ism,” she said while addressing the indefinite Dharna of Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism). The Nimesh Commission has recommended actions against the police officers who falsely arrested and implicated Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi.
She supported the demands of Rihai Manch that accused police officers should be arrested, Nimesh Commission report should be released and innocent youths languishing in jails in terror cases should be released.
Coming from Jaipur to show solidarity with the protest, Kavita said that in the name of terrorism, IB has targeted Muslim-dominated districts like Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Darbhanga, Beed, Dharwad and Bhatka and has picked innocent youths from these areas to disrepute the districts in a bid to polarize the people on communal lines. This, she said, has further pushed the already backward Muslim community behind.
Rihai Manch started the dharna on 22nd May, four days after the mysterious custodial death of Khalid Mujahid.
Khalid Mujahid was a resident of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. He was picked in Dec. 2007 for the court blasts in November same year in the state. The government appointed commission RD Nimesh Commission had enquired into his arrest and found it as illegal and fake. Following the report, the family and human rights activists demanded release of Khalid Mujahid. In last two weeks, the state government had given indication of his release. But on 18th May he died in mysterious circumstances in police van when he was being brought from Faizabad court to Lucknow jail. His uncle Zaheer Alam Falahi filed FIR in which he made accused 42 police officers for conspiring the arrest
Today’s dharna was also addressed by Ashfaq Sharif, national president of Students Islamic Organisatin of India. Coming from Karnataka to lend support to Rihai Manch, Ashfaq said the death of Khalid Mujahid who was probed as innocent by Nimesh Commission proves that Samajwadi Party which was taken to power by Muslims, not only forgetting its pre-poll promises but also ready to kill Muslims. On 29th May evening, a candle light vigil was observed by intellectuals of Lucknow to demanding arrest of the killers of Khalid Mujahid. The candle vigil was observed at the GPO roundabout in Hazratganj area of the state capital.
