Mumbai : As the Marshashtra legislative assembly’s two day monsoon session began, Shiv Sena, which is leading the Maharashtra coalition government on Tuesday moved a Privilege Motion against Republic TV’s Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for making objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik moved the motion, alleging that Goswami had violated the freedom of expression and made uncharitable remarks against the Chief Minister. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab, also from the Shiv Sena, supports the motion amid sloganeering from the BJP in opposition of the motion. Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal, the presiding authority, rules that “action as per legislative rules” be taken on the Shiv Sena MLA’s proposal. The Vidhan Sabha has been adjourned for ten minutes amid din over the issue.
Goswami has been under sharp criticism for compromising with journalism and brazenly mouthing the ruling BJP at center.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA said that government has called just 2 days session looking at the situation of corona pandemic in the State. In such short span of time instead of giving attention to many other grim issues like tackling of corona situation in the state, issues of farmer suicides, plight of students this government is focusing on other less important issue like Arnab Goswami. Treasury benches refuted BJP allegations and said freedom of expression is not an absolute thing.
