ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University’s K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies on November 18 invited noted Islamic Scholar, Professor Salman Nadvi from Durban, South Africa who has attended Jamia Ahmadia, Nadwa and University of Chicago for a PhD to deliver a lecture on ‘The Prophet As Perfect Model.’ The Lecture which was attended by academics, scholars and other students was held at the Conference Hall of the University’s Administrative Block.
Prof Nadvi has served as a Dean of Near Eastern and Middle Eastern studies in the University of Chicago. He has also been a Fullbright Fellow, Fellow Saint Cross College and a Fellow with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He has authored over 40 books and contributed hundreds of articles in various journals.
Quoting an ‘Ayat’ from the Holy Quran, “If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you, forgive your sins.” (3: 32), Prof Nadvi said: The declaration of the holy Book is clear. It is set with a condition which is agreeable to the ways of Allah. He added that Quran orders mankind to obey Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
He also said that the guidelines to obeying Allah are found in obeying the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and manifest the exquisite of being a good listener of the divine revelations and putting those instructions into practice.
Prof Nadvi also pointed out that it was only the holy Prophet’s character that he forgave enemies of the divine message after the conquest of Makkah. The enemies of Islam who later became Muslims and were forgiven by the Prophet included Hinda who ordered Hazrat Hamza’s assassination, said Prof Nadvi. He further said that Hinda had chewed Hazrat Hamza’s liver after his assassination but the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him) pardoned her and accepted her as believer.
The Seminar was presided by the Aligarh Muslim University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier Syed Ahmad Ali who said that even before the Holy Prophet received the mantle of delivering the divine message, the people of the Quraish had been so much impressed by the gentleness of his disposition, his integrity, his purity of heart and his singular devotion to duty that they had conferred upon him the title of Al-Amin (The Trust- worthy) and As-Sadiq (The True).
Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker in the seminar, Prof Ahtesham A Nizami, Director, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University said that it is an honor to have Prof Nadvi for a lecture in the University.
