Gulfisha Fatima, a prominent Muslim activist from Seelampur in Northeast Delhi, marked a somber milestone on April 9, 2024, as she completed four years behind bars in connection with the Delhi pogrom cases under the stringent UAPA. She is one of many anti-CAA protesters who have been charged with terrorism offenses for their alleged involvement in a supposed conspiracy linked to the violence that erupted in February 2020, resulting in 54 casualties, predominantly from the Muslim community.
A student pursuing a Master’s degree in Urdu at Delhi University, an MBA graduate, and a former radio jockey, Gul hails from the Seelampur locality in North East Delhi. She played an active role in the peaceful and dynamic anti-CAA-NPR-NRC movement, which captured the attention of many. The movement’s vitality and vitality gave rise to the emergence of young female leaders like Gulfisha, who were instrumental in driving the cause forward. Not aligned with any specific student group or political party, Gulfisha’s involvement was fueled by a deep-seated commitment to social justice and equality.
As Gulfisha Fatima’s incarceration reaches its fourth year, it stands as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those who dare to raise their voices against injustice in today’s tumultuous times.
