The central government has made it clear that vaccination has not been mandatory for people living in India. It stated the same while responding to a plea filed in the Supreme Court.
The government submitted that no person can be forced to be vaccinated against their wishes. Meanwhile, it emphasised that Covid-19 vaccination is in larger public interest and the same has conveyed to the general public through various print and social media platforms.
“It is most respectfully submitted that the Government of India has not issued any SOPs which make carrying of vaccination certificate mandatory for any purpose,” the government said.
It further maintained that all beneficiaries are to be informed about adverse events which may occur after COVID-19 vaccine, as per guidelines issued by the government.
The petition was filed in the top court to seek ease of access to vaccination to persons with disabilities. In its response, the central government maintained that a total of 23,678 doses have been administered to disabled persons.
