In a startling development, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) which works under Central government demolished the residence of Wakeel Hassan, a key figure in leading the team that heroically rescued 41 individuals from a perilous situation in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel. Hassan, who spearheaded the team of rat miners instrumental in the rescue, found his home in Khajuri, North East Delhi, demolished by the DDA on February 28.
Hassan, 45, who also heads Rockwell Enterprises, the company employing the rat-hole miners, expressed dismay over the demolition. “They came for demolition this morning; my wife and I were away, leaving only my children at home. Despite my pleas upon returning, they proceeded with the demolition, targeting only my house amidst several others,” Hassan told Muslim Mirror.
In response, the DDA issued an official statement justifying the action as part of a drive to clear encroachments from acquired land in Khajuri Khas village for planned development purposes.
The demolition has shocked many, given Hassan’s celebrated role in the recent rescue mission. His leadership and bravery during the Uttarakhand tunnel crisis earned him widespread recognition and praise. The incident had trapped numerous individuals, and Hassan’s team’s swift and courageous efforts led to the successful evacuation of 41 people.
The demolition raises questions about the underlying motives behind targeting an individual lauded for their valor and humanitarian contributions. It also reminds us of Dr Kafil Khan who selflessly served the patients in times of crisis but later imprisoned.
This is pathetic
