New Delhi: On the eve of the 24th anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid which was pulled down by the radical Hindutva forces, Civil Society, and Muslim groups have planned joint protest march and rally on Tuesday in the national capital to reiterate the demand rebuilding of the Babri Masjid and punishing the guilty.
Organizers of the Joint Protest Rally said they will reiterate the Demand Punishment for those guilty of demolition of Babri Masjidas they have been roaming with full impunity and most them sitting in the central and state governments.
Lok Raj Sangathan’s Birju Nayak said more than two dozen organizations will take part in the protest march that will converge into a rally.
In the current climate of systematic hate-mongering and communal conflict the occasion of 6 Decemberbecomes extremely relevant, he added.
The demolition of a national monument on 6 December 1992 and the communal violence that followed resulting in massacre of Muslims in Mumbai and other parts of the country, continues to haunt the country – not as a memory of the past, but as a painful reality that has been repeated over and over again – in Gujarat in 2002, in Muzaffarnagar in 2012, as well as in Trilokpuri and Bawana and other parts of Delhi in 2014, in the encounter killings in Bhopal in 2016, in the episodes of communal and sectarian violence in Odisha and Assam, in the continued denial of justice for the genocide of Sikhs in 1984.
The organizers appealed that the people to come together, irrespective of religion, language, caste, racial, regional or other differences and resolve to continue to fight till the guilty are punished.
“Let us unite against state organised communal violence and terror! An attack on one is an attack on all! Let us build a society which is based on justice for all!
Let us fight for radical political reforms that will truly empower our people and build a modern and civilized India. Let us fight for legislation and mechanisms to prevent state-organised communal violence in future.”
Meanwhile, Popular Front Chairman K M Shareef reminded that immediately after the demolition, the government promised to rebuild the Masjid on the same site, all secular parties and the mainstream media supported the cause. But the later years saw a betrayal not only of the rulers but of all these circles from providing justice to the aggrieved Muslim community.
He further said the demolition would not have been possible without the support of the Congress party which was in power at the time.
In view of the forthcoming elections in U. P. and some other states, BJP and other Sangh Parivar elements are trying to bring the issue of Ram Mandir construction to the forefront.
Shareef sought the intervention of the Election Commission to prevent the plying of communal card in the name of Ram Mandir construct in the coming state elections.
Besides Lok Raj Sangathan, the rally will be joined by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Social Democratic Party of India, Communist Ghadar Party of India, , Popular Front of India, Welfare Party of India, INSAF, Jan Sangarsh Manch-Haryana, SIO, APCR, CPI (M-L)-New Proletarian, Sikh Forum, Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Student Organisation, AIFTU (New), Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, Mazdoor Ekta Committee, Citizens for Democracy, All India Muslim Majlis-eMushawarat,United Muslim Front, and United Sikh Mission and others.
