By Muslim Mirror Special Correspondent,
New Delhi: Modern educated academics and scholars have made passionate appeal to Muslims not only recite Qur’an but also contemplate over its verses as Qur’an is the last and complete guidance book to the humanity. Addressing the third Qur’an Conference billed as ‘Qur’an for Character Building’, organized by the Qur’an Center here on Sunday, they said Muslims should introspect themselves as they are being ‘hated’ by other communities despite being described them in Qur’an as “ khair-e-Uammath’.
In his thought-provoking power-point presentation, founder of Quran Center and Principal of Dr. Zakir Husain Delhi College Dr. Aslam Parvaiz dissected the character of the Muslim community in the light of Qur’anic verses. He insisted that a born Muslim is no Muslim in the way similar to that of the son of a doctor or a carpenter who does not become a doctor or a carpenter by birth but he has to undergo training and become qualified to become what his father is. “A true Muslim can only be the one who follows the teachings of Qur’an,” he added.
While underlining evil customs and practices that crept in Muslim societies, Dr Aslam Pravaiz asked Muslims to introspect whether or not they are following the teachings of Quran.Do they care about their society, and society does not mean only Muslims.
The founder trustee of the World Organization of Religions and knowledge (WORK) Abdullah Tariq said in his address that Qur’an is not the book which deals only about the religious issues. Rather, it dwells in detail on issues concerning everyday life. He said Muslims should desist from slander and making jokes of others. He praised the meditation aspect of Brahma Kumaris and said Namaz is basically a meditation but Muslims are not following it. Abdullah Tariq , who basically does ‘dawah’ work in Non-Muslims, emphasized need that the character of Muslims should be exemplary which should compel others to start loving Muslims and their religion. He said that if Muslims strictly adhere to the teachings of Qur’an in true spirit then there would be no reason for other sections of the society not to love Muslims.
Dr. Fahim Akhtar Nadvi stressed on the need to understand Qur’an. He said most of the Muslims held a wrong notion about Qur’an that it is book of ‘Thawab’.
Dr. Aslam Abdullah, who came all along from United States, stressed on women empowerment and gender equality. He cited several examples of the Prophet’s life in this regard. He said for a good society the character of the Muslim community in general and youth in particular should be based on the teaching of Quran and what the Prophet practiced and preached. He rued that Muslims in the country have been living more than thousand years but Islam has been still among the non-Muslim populace of the country. “Even, we did not spread the message of equality as Muslims themselves practiced the untouchbility even at graveyards.”
In his presidential remarks, Sheikh Abdul Kaleem Siddiqui said that Muslims should follow the path of Prophet as his life was a complete model for Muslims as well as whole humanity.

There is a need to urge people, especially those who are literate, to study Quran. To understand the Quran, one has to learn Arabic language.
In this regard, the embassies of Arabic speaking nations and the Arab League may help people who want to learn Arabic.
Arabic Council on the pattern of the British Council should be established in towns and cities. Modern technologies would be of great help in this.
In Wazirabad, in north Delhi, we are around 10 people who are interested in learning Arabic. More people may join it. We talk to an imam of the mosque. He agreed but it could not materialize. We are willing to pay for anybody who can teach us Arabic. We comprise elders and our children.
After reading about the Quran Center, it is heartening that there are many people out there who are thinking alike.
I firmly believe that the Quran and the Prophet’s examples provide paradigms for us to face the challenges by Muslims not only in India but the world over.
Could your center take this initiative to help people who want to learn Arabic and the understand the Quran.
Best wishes

He told “Muslim practiced untouchbility even at graveyards”. I think he means Indian/pakistani/Bangala Deshi Muslims. I did not hear of this ever before. Can anyone give me information on it. He did not tell that Quran emphasis on Tawheed. Tawheed in short is Oneness to Allaah and describing Him as being One and Unique, with no partner or peer in His Essence and Attributes and he is only worthy of worship and pray. This is why many people are against Islam.
