New Delhi: Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif has accepted Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi’s invitation to attend his swearing-in ceremony on Monday. But the sudden volta-face of Modi towards Islamabad has puzzled many analysts as he and BJP used ‘anti-Pakistan rhetoric’ during the entire electioneering. It is said the reason behind extending invitation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is to pave way for Adani group to sell electricity to Pakistan. Adani Group, which emerged as the main backer of Mdoi during the election campaign, is planning to set up a 10,000-MW thermal power plant in the Kutch region of Gujarat and the bulk of the electricity to be produced from it is likely to be exported to Pakistan.
Taking a dig at BJP and Modi, Congress reminded BJP leaders of their earlier remarks that terror and talks cannot go hand in hand. Congress leader Manish Tewari said, “Throughout the election campaign, you saw a lot of anti- Pakistan rhetoric which was articulated by the BJP in a language which was extremely vociferous to say the least. And now you have this invitation to Prime Minister of Pakistan. “So, therefore, it is for BJP to introspect as to whether terror and invitations can go hand in hand,”
Noting that while it was the prerogative of the elected government to invite whosoever they want for their swearing-in ceremony, Tewari said the BJP should not forget that Manmohan Singh had come under attack from them for carrying forward the process of normalizing relations with the neighbour initiated by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The sudden U-turn of the BJP may be to give positive message to world that the new government wants cordial relations with it neighbours but commerce factor cannot be ruled out. Since Gujarat is considered to be a power surplus state, Adani Power is learnt to have decided to sell the electricity to Pakistan
Yes it is true the commercial relation is likely to be developed and of course adqani is to get return on his investment in election.
