Muzaffarnagar: Communal elements are bent upon creating tension in parts of Uttar Pradesh as in the latest incidents of provocation, a mosque was attacked in Shamli town and loudspeakers in full volume were played during pre-dawn prayers in Moradabad. In both the incidents, the Muslims community showed patience and called police to calm the situation. In two separate villages of Moradabad, members of both the communities – Hindu and Muslims – came face to face, but police soon swung into action and controlled the situation. In Shamli, the anti-social elements set prayers mat on fire in a mosque. The elderly Muslims soon called police.
Meanwhile, the district authorities in Muzaffarnagar have filed cases against 11 Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leaders in a local court for violating prohibitory orders during last year’s riots. The authorities said that the accused staged a protest in September last year outside the district jail against the arrest of RLD district president Ajit Rathi and other party activists in connection with the riots. The police had registered an FIR a day after the incident. And after investigation by a SIT, the ADM filed the case in court.
Meanwhile in district Meerut 11 persons, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between members of two communities in Jamun Mohalla and adjacent Bada Bazar under the Lal Kurti police station area here on Tuesday night. The situation was brought under control by the police after the warring groups reached a compromise SP (city) Om Prakash said.
