Gautam Lahiri panel scores landslide victory in Press Club of India elections

The Gautam Lahiri-led panel has emerged triumphant in the organizational election of the Press Club of India. The victory, which saw the Lahiri panel securing all positions, including the managing committee, was announced today before gathering of PCI members at Club’s office. sending ripples throughout the country.

The stakes were high as this election garnered nationwide attention, with India witnessing a noticeable surge of right-wing influence in various significant institutions. However, the Press Club of India, during this crucial juncture, emerged as a symbol of resistance, secularism  and a staunch advocate for journalists’ rights.

Speaking on the  occasion,Vinay Kumar, the  outgoing general secretary said ‘the result shows how the PCI is inclusive club where  communal harmony and brotherhood prevails’.

Notably three Muslim journalists Mahtab Alam (joint secretary) Abdul Bari Masoud (member managing committee) Ashraf Ali Bastavi (member managing committee) were also elected .

According to the official election results, Gautam Lahiri has been elected as the President, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious journalism career. The newly formed executive team includes Manoranjan Bharti of NDTV as Vice President, Neeraj Thakur as General Secretary, Mehtab Alam as Joint Secretary, and Mohit Dubey as the Treasurer (Khazan).

Notably, the Gautam Lahiri Panel for the management committee achieved a clean sweep, with all 16 members, securing their positions. The remarkable victory will undoubtedly reshape the landscape of the Press Club of India.
