Aligarh, October 15: ‘I feel myself the luckiest person to have come to AMU, I got my best friends in AMU , said Anubhav Sinha, noted film director and producer while addressing the AMU Alumni Meet-2016 as the Guest of Honour.
Mr Sinha, himself an AMU alumnus urged the students to rightfully find their areas of interest and make career in them.
Mr Sinha added that he was a student of engineering in AMU but he realized that working in films will make him happier and since then he has been pursuing his interests. “Money is always a by-product of what you are brilliant at doing, so pursue your interests, where you can perform the best,” he further added.
There are some elements, who try to malign the image of AMU and they need to be left isolated and quiet by the excellence of students. Once a politician called AMU the ‘nursery of terrorism’ I responded and wrote on my Face book that I was at AMU in many years but didn’t see a terrorist, AMU can reply its critics by producing the best IAS officers, doctors, engineers, scientists and other professionals,” added Mr Sinha.
Mumshad Ahmad, Vice President, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, General Motors, Pune, who also attended the Meet as a Guest of Honour urged students to be confident and not to doubt their abilities to make right decisions in life. He further urged them not to be passive and afraid from working hard. He motivated students to pursue their goals with courage and always respect others.
Mr Mumshad said that AMU is a brand, which Aligs represent and that the students have to do their best to raise the university standards to a higher level.
Recalling his student days, Mr Mumshad said that his stay in AMU was a full package, which included studying hard, spending time at extra-curricular, enjoying gossips with friends at Dhabas (tea kiosks) and above all the discipline and culture.
Guest of Honour, Hilal Isar Khan, Vice President and Operating Head, Honda Cars India Limited, Greater Noida said that he regrets missing the last year’s Alumni Meet due to a heavy schedule. “However, I am delighted to be part of the Alumni Meet-2016 and I hope that the students can benefit with my presence this year,” he added.
He further said that AMU is not only teaching the importance of the three Ts of Talent, Time and Treasure but the university also gives Talim (education), Tehzeeb (culture) and Tarbiyat (grooming) to students.
Mr Khan said that it is our duty and obligation to guide students and that he will be glad, if the students can seek necessary help and guidance from him in pursuit of their careers.
He added that the present AMU Administration is one of the smartest as they know how to achieve specific and measureable tasks with realistic approaches in the given time.
Guest of Honour, Dr Quazi Ghazwan Ahmad, Senior Consultant, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai said that the Alumni Meet is not only about refreshing the bond with the Alma Mater for him, but it also shows that our umbilical cord with AMU is still intact.
He added that he has received so much from the University that it cannot be described. “When I did my MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, the admission fees was only Rs 700 and I ended up receiving more through scholarships during my student days,” he further said.
“AMU taught me to work hard,” said Dr Quazi adding that he still remembers not making to PMT in the first attempt and how he changed into a hard working student in AMU to achieve his goal of qualifying for MBBS.
Dr Quazi added the hard work, which he learnt in AMU still helps him to walk an extra mile in putting efforts as Senior Consultant and a Researcher.
The Chief Guest, Mr Riwan Ahmad, Chairman and Managing Director, Oren Hydrocarbons, Chennai said that he has come back to the campus after a hiatus of 30-years and that he is pleased to see the developments made in the University.
Talking about his student life in AMU, Mr Ahmad said that studying in AMU was unique as the University has not only given him degrees but groomed him into a hard-working and disciplined person.
“I am proud to have attended this University, which has produced Bharat Ratna awardees like the great freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar and Dr Zakir Hussain,” said the Chief Guest.
He added that the students present in the Meet have a great opportunity in interacting with the Alumni, who have gathered from different parts of the country and the world and learn from them, the competitive spirit, which has made them successful.
In the conclusion of his speech, Mr Ahmad appreciated the AMU administration and the Alumni Affairs Committee for organizing the Meet.
Aligarh Muslim University Alumni from all over the world today gathered at the Varsity’s Kennedy Hall Auditorium in a re-union to attend the AMU Alumni Meet-2016. The two-day Meet will conclude after the Valedictory Function on October 16, 2016.
While presiding over the Inaugural Function, the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah said that the time has come to pass the baton to the next generation. He added that the old generation has done their best and now the younger people with responsibilities have to take things in positive ways to another level.
Delivering the opening remarks, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig S Ahmad Ali (Veteran) said that AMU Alumni makes us smile as they are inspiration for the students attending this University.
The Inaugural Function also hosted the book release of US based Nuclear Engineer and AMU Alumnus, Mr Tanvir Salim. His book is known as ‘A hot summer day in Gorakhpur.’ The Alumni Meet-2016 souvenir edited by Professor S Ziaur Rahman was also released during the function and mementoes were distributed to the guests on the dais.
Meanwhile, Mr Manzoor Ghauri from USA donated Rs 60 lakhs for the renovation of the University Jama Masjid and Dr Shaheen Usmani from the Brooklyn College, USA donated US Dollars 25, 000 for construction of schools.
Professor Suhail Sabir, Chairman, Alumni Affairs Committee delivered the welcome address. Prof F S Sheerani conducted the Programme while Prof Javaid Akhter, Registrar, AMU proposed the vote of thanks.
