New Delhi: As part of Unani Day 2022 celebrations, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), the largest institution of Unani medicine under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, is hosting an International Conference on Unani Medicine on March 10-11, 2022 in Srinagar.
Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM, informed that the conference’s theme of “Diet and Nutrition in Unani Medicine for Good Health and Well-being” was chosen because it is very essential and aligned with national priorities. He also stated that the conference was originally set for February 10-11, 2022 to commemorate Unani Day, but had to be changed for March 10-11, 2022 due to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

Prof. Khan went on to say that the conference’s goal is to look into the possibilities of Unani Medicine, particularly its dietary regimens and counselling, in reducing illness burden and mortality, which would help us achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 of Good Health and Wellbeing. Dedicated scientific sessions on diverse themes connected to diet and nutrition for maintaining good health and wellness will be held at the international conference.
It is well known that India does not have a great record on this front, with one-third of the population classified as malnourished. Unani medicine has the potential to provide a good solution to this problem, and the Unani fraternity will examine options at the mega meeting.
