New Delhi: Reacting sharply to the statement of new Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah on minority reservation, Jamiat Ualma Hind (M) leader and ex MP Maulana Mahmood Madni said it is ‘irresponsible ‘and ‘provocative’. Madni said it is a ruse to deprive of Muslims from affirmative action. ‘Nobody has asked reservation on the basis of religion but on the basis of socio-economic backwardness’. Depriving any community on the basis of his religious affiliation is also against the spirit of Constitution, he added. It is the duty of the state to end discrimination on the basis of religion, caste and creed and to provide equal opportunities to its citizens for realizing a just and equal society, Maulana Madni said. “Unless and until, this is not done a society –based on equality cannot be achieved as enshrined in the Constitution”.
Quoting a recent resolution passed by the Jamiat’s Majlis-e- Aamelaa, he said in the present situation, Muslims cannot compete with their compatriots without clutches of reservation in education and jobs. He vowed that Jamiat will continue its struggle till its logical end.
The opposition Congress has also lashed out at Minority Affairs Minister for her reluctance to accept Muslim as minority community saying she appeared to have been deputed to scrap the ministry. Congress spokesperson M Afzal said the Muslims are almost 85 per cent of total minority groups and without their welfare the purpose of uplifting minorities cannot be achieved. Meanwhile, Najma Heptuallah retracted her statement saying she was wrongly interpreted by the media.
Another Congress leader and ex MLA from Delhi Veer Singh Dhingan has condemned Najma Heptullah remarks on minority reservation. In a media statement, he said the minister is speaking the language of RSS and BJP.
Analysts see no element of surprise in her remarks on Muslim quota as her party’s stand on it was clear, but her definition of minority group is pathetic. She lacks objectivity. The purpose of her ministry is to uplift the condition of minorities, especially Muslims, who are marginalized. Like Sikhs, Parsees are also a minority, but the two minority communities are well-off. Further, Muslims are the largest group among all the minorities – say nearly 85 per cent – so the ministry cannot obtain its objective by ignoring Muslims. She must go through her ministry‘s objective and guidelines before making poor comment.
If anyone can remind Maulana Mahmood Madni that he himself has said in many interviews that Muslims are second largest majority and he doesn’t prefer calling Muslims as minority. Why is he making a fuss now?
how shameless of you Delhi and of najma, you tell lies without any regret on face and think others are fools. Hindus constitute around 85 crore and Muslims around 25 crore, you and najma knows this very well but will say lies openly just because your control RSS has told you to say so.
The same dog is barking on another dog
Z R Khan you should mind your language. These Ulemas may have wrong political thought but they are closer to Allah then your esteemed self.
Mr. Khan, they are not ulemas; in reality they are businessmen with grand showrooms by the name of jamat e islami and tableeghi jamat.
Sahil what a confused thought closer to ALLAH wrong thought are you talking about shaitaan. You mean madni is shaitaan and I think you are right.
Its all politics , najam must have got shit to eat and therefore she is putting those merciless words against poor muslims, I think atleast she should have think about how many percent of muslims living below poverty line and how many are sleeping without food. I think this shit would have cleared if she would have in Kashmir or Hyderabad.
