New Delhi, 2 December 2014 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday condoled the death of former Maharashtra chief minister A.R. Antulay, saying he was one of the “tall leaders of the Congress” in the state.
Modi extended his condolences to the bereaved family. Antulay breathed his last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
New Delhi : Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday condoled the death of party veteran A.R. Antulay, saying he will be remembered for his commitment to the party in its trying times.
The entire Congress party stands with the Antulay family in this hour of grief, she said in a message.
“Antulay was one of the most significant leaders from Maharashtra who had a long public innings,” she said of the former Maharashtra chief minister.
“Antulay was a brilliant legal mind and a committed member of the Congress party.
“He made significant contribution to the nation as a chief minister and union minister and parliamentarian.”
Mumbai : The Maharashtra government Tuesday announced a three-day state mourning for former chief minister A.R. Antulay, who died here following prolonged illness.
During the mourning period, there will be no official entertainment or celebrations or major government functions, including the likely expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet.
Antulay, 85, breathed his last Tuesday at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital where he was admitted a few days ago.
Antulay was the state’s first Muslim chief minister, from June 1980 to January 1982.
He served as a union minister in 1995 and later during the UPA-I government of Manmohan Singh. ———IANS
