Calicut: The National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of Popular Front of India held at Calicut termed NDA a worse UPA, in the light of the economic policies and proclamations of newly elected government. The performance of new government so far shows that not only it will not break away from the anti-people policies of the past government but will be embracing it even stronger. As the government completes its first one month, all they had to offer for the population is price hike of basic commodities and train fare and 100 Percentage Foreign Investment (FDI) in the media and defence sectors. Even those people who voted against UPA with the unrealistic hopes created by right wing propaganda machines are slowly waking up to the realisation that they have been very cleverly cheated. The meeting urged people to resist this destructive liberalisation.
In another resolution NEC of Popular Front expressed deep concern over the reports that 150,000 historic files, including the details of the first cabinet meeting after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, had been destroyed during a cleaning drive by the Home Ministry. The meeting shared the concern expressed by observers that this is an attempt to wipe out the official evidences of the anti-national activities like assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Popular Front appealed to all the opposition members of parliament to be vigilant against such attempts.
The meeting has strongly condemned the air attacks on Palestinians at Gaza by the Israel military and expressed solidarity with people of Palestine who are fighting for their homeland.
Popular Front will continue to distribute scholarships to poor and meritorious students at under graduate and post graduate levels in the current academic year. The NEC meeting has decided to spend Rupees 10,000,000 (One Crore) during this year for scholarships, as part of organization’s community development programmes.
