New Delhi: Coming out open in support of the besieged media fraternity in restive Kashmir, the Press Club of India on Tuesday condemned the attack on Media in Kashmir and demanded removal of all restrictions immediately so as the media function there freely.
In a statement, PCI President Rahul Jalali and Secretary General Nadeem A Kazmi deplored the ham-handed manner in which local authorities confiscated newspapers and attacked Printing presses leading to closure of the local media.
They said this action is a bigger attack on the freedom of press as compared to the controls imposed during Emergency and represents a new low in muzzling democratic freedom.
“We call upon the State Government to immediately withdraw any control order on press freedom including any restrictions on their mobility during curfew hours.
We also urge upon journalists to attend a massive protest meet organized by the Press Club of India and the Indian Women’s Press Corps at 3 PM on Wednesday 20th July, 2016 at the Press Club premises”.
