SOLAPUR : Solapur unit of Jamiat Ahle Hadees has done an exemplary and praiseworthy task of providing hundreds of BPL families with free ration in the month of Ramzan. They are undertaking this project since last three years, notably without any consideration of Maslak .
The ration package provided to 525 deprived homes this Ramzan consisted of rice, wheat, sugar, tea, dates, dry fruits and dal etc. Costing about 2000 Rupees per unit it was borne through zakat money.
Saqib Mangalgiri a young volunteer of the group told MuslimMirror.com that about 50 young people are involved in the work on voluntary basis. A survey was carried to indentify most needy households. The basis of selection of beneficiary households was widows, handicapped persons and absence of TV cable connection. The homes were personally visited by the volunteers and the project was executed in an organized manner.
Volunteer Shoeb Gadwal told MuslimMirror.com that all the volunteers have their own business or jobs. They work with a humanitarian aim without expecting a single cup of tea from the organization. All the records are properly maintained and kept clear and transparent.
Doctor and social worker Dr.Faiz Bangi lauded the group for working without any consideration of maslak or jamat.
Veteran Islamic scholar of Solapur city Moulana Kamaluddin Asari said that “doing this job in an organized manner is really a need of the hour. This activity should be conducted at every place”
Zakat (obligatory alms giving) is one of the pillars of Islam. Donating 2.5 % of total wealth is a powerful weapon to fight against poverty. Unfortunately, there are no centralized systems of zakat collection and utilization in India. It is because of absence of such a system that zakat cannot be properly mobilized in India.
