HYDERABAD : Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday that the government shall soon convene a special session of Legislative Assembly to pass a resolution granting 12 per cent reservation to Muslims. The resolution will then be sent to the Central government.
“I had promised 12 per cent reservation for Muslims. ‘Main baat kahata hoon toh barkarar rahata hoon yeh aap tamaam janate hain” (I keep my word, you all know that), said Rao the Iftar party he had hosted at Nizam College grounds.
“A committee has been set up which will shortly submit its report (on reservation) and the moment the report is submitted a special session of Assembly will be called and a resolution will be passed which will be sent directly to Central government…I am fully hopeful that we will succeed in this,” Rao further added.
A 12% reservation to Muslims in state was one of the electoral promises of The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). This percentage is proportional to the Muslim population of Telangana state.
A panel had been constituted by the state government to analyse the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in Telangana.
According to CM Rao Telangana government has allocated a budget of Rs 1,200 crore to Minority Welfare Department. He claimed that it was the highest among all states.
At the Iftar, CM also informed about 120 minority residential schools to be started in various districts of Telanga state this month. They have incurred a cost of Rs 3,900 crore.
Also presenta at the event were AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali.
