New Delhi : Award winning investigative journalist Ran Ayyub’s book Gujarat Files-Anatomy of a Cover Upwas officially released at Indian Habitat Center in New Delhi Monday. The self published book enjoyed such a packed audience that people were seen sitting on floor, while many waited outside the venue.
The event was attended by Arundhati Roy, Barkha Dutta, Saba Naqvi, Ellen Barry, historian Zoya Hasan, Forrmer East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit, TV news star Rajdeep Sardesai, author Raghu Karnad , Shekhar Gupta, HarperCollins India publisher Karthika VK, author Sankarshan Thakur and Rajni Malhotra of Bahrisons among others
The launch event was moderated by Hartosh Singh Bal who held a conversation Rana Ayyub Rajdeep Sardesai, Manoj Mitta and Indra Jaisingh.
Gujarat Files is an account of eight month long undercover investigation done by Ayyub under the assumed identity of Maithili Tyagi, a filmmaker from the US.
Before being self published by Ayyub the book was rejected by publishers across India for the explosive truth it contained.
Later Ayyub tweeted gratitude for Hartosh Singh Bal, Rajdeep Sardesai, Manoj Mitta and Indra Jaisingh for not giving into fear.
Notably senior journalist and Modi loyalist Tavleen Singh’s book launch a few weeks earlier at the same venue had hardly seen any attendance.
