Kolkata, Nov 8 : Three people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the bomb blast at a club building in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district that left one person dead, police said.
The explosion occurred at a local club in Katwa town, about 160 km north of Kolkata, on Monday where a huge number of crude bombs and other explosives were stored illegally.
The locals also said the club got completely flattened and its roof was blown away in the explosion. An elderly person died in the blast.
The CID took over the case on Monday.
“Police have recovered more than 30 socket bombs from the spot. The bombs have been successfully defused in the presence of CID’s bomb squad and fire tenders on Tuesday,” said a CID official.
In another incident, two people were arrested on Monday for illegally hoarding bomb-making powder at a grocery shop in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
The incident occurred in Raghunathgunj area of Murshidabad.
“Shop owner Prabir Kumar Dutta (48) along with his helper Subha Haldal (20) was arrested for storing potential bomb making ingredient in huge quantity,” said an officer of Raghunathgunj police station.
“Approximately 95 kg of bomb making power was recovered from the shop. The two arrested were produced before the sub-divisional judicial magistrates’ court on Tuesday,” he said.—IANS
