New York, June 22 : The members of the UN Security Council expressed their strong concern about intensified terrorist attacks and encouraged all Yemeni parties to avoid security vacuum that can be exploited by terrorist or other violent groups.
French President to the Council Ambassador Francois Delattre reiterated to the press that there is no alternative to a political solution and the current talks give the best chance of finding a solution to the conflict.
The 15-member body urged the parties to show “flexibility” to secure an agreement and a durable peace that is best for the country and the Yemeni people.
The members also called on all parties to the conflict to respect and fully comply with the cessation of hostilities, urging against acts of provocation and for restraint to be exercised and calling on all sides to respect international humanitarian law.
The members of the Security Council were briefed earlier by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, on the current status of the talks in Kuwait.
Therefore, the Council’s president said his fellow member states reiterated their support for the UN-led process and the efforts of the Special Envoy.—NNN-KUNA
