Aligarh: The UGC Academic Staff College, Aligarh Muslim University has been granted with the English Access Micro-scholarship Programme for the under-privileged children of AMU schools by the American Centre, US Embassy.
Professor A. R. Kidwai, Director, UGC Academic Staff College said that this project has been sanctioned by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the US Embassy, New Delhi for a period of two years from August 2014 to 2016. Under this project, 200 boys and girls in the age group of 14 to 16 will be provided training in English language free of cost in evening classes. It will help them improve their English proficiency skills. They will also be exposed to other personality enhancement activities like environmental awareness and technology led communication under this programme.
Earlier, two similar programmes have been successfully completed at the UGC Academic Staff College. Some students have visited the United States of America under cultural exchange programmes while about 400 children from AMU schools have completed their language training. The RELO has distributed 110 Kindle book readers to the deserving students as well.
Prof. Kidwai said that classes for the new batch will commence from August 2014.
