Chennai (Tamil Nadu) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a person for allegedly involving in recruiting and facilitating travel of some persons to Syria to join the ISIS.
The NIA said accused Ansar Meeran, 29, a resident of Thiruvithancode, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu has been arrested ISIS/Daish Chennai Case.
The case was registered by NIA on January 26, 2017 under section 120B of the IPC, besides sections 17, 18, 18-B, 20, 38, 39 and 40 of the UA (P) Act against nine accused persons.
“The accused persons and their associates, with the intention of furthering the activities of the proscribed terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)/Daish, had hatched a criminal conspiracy from 2013 onwards and formed a terrorist gang which had raised and received funds, organized meetings, recruited and facilitated the travel of some persons to Syria to join the ISIS/Daish,” said an official statement.
The accused was also involved in hatching a criminal conspiracy and forming a terrorist gang which had raised and received funds and organized meetings in this regard.
Arrested accused Meeran has been produced before the NIA Special Court Poonamalle, Chennai, seeking further NIA custody.
