9th Mile Guwahati: University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) has become the member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UK on May 25, 2016. Thus USTM has achieved another height in its mission to provide quality higher education by exposing and providing its students a global platform. The ACU represents 535 universities from 37 Commonwealth countries. It is the world’s first and oldest international university network, established in 1913.
Being one of the members of ACU, USTM will not only get the global visibility but also can access various benefits in different fields of higher education. The ACU administers scholarships, provides academic research and leadership on issues in the sector, and promotes inter-university cooperation and the sharing of good practice, helping universities serve their communities. After receiving the confirmation of membership of ACU forwarded by Ms Ashling Haslehurst, Membership Services, on behalf of Prof John Wood, Secretary General, ACU London, UK, the whole USTM community celebrated for this achievement. USTM is already a member of Association of Indian Universities, (AIU).
The ACU network brings together some of the oldest, best known and highly ranked universities in the world with some of the newest and most innovative. USTM has already collaboration with some of the reputed universities of the country and the world. As a member of ACU, the USTM can connect with more stakeholders working in key areas of university activity, inviting them to share their experiences, explore ideas and discover potential avenues for collaboration. With this membership, USTM can accelerate the process of creating a breadth of relevant partnerships across campus in research knowledge and information, internationalization, community engagement and human resource management.
The students and faculty members of USTM can avail various grants and fellowship provided by ACU to increase staff and student mobility and building capacity of universities worldwide. Being the member, USTM would get the opportunity to compare their key management processes with a range of universities worldwide through undertaking a series of activities including research management.
