Saharanpur: After Meerut, anti-social elements tried to vitiate communal atmosphere in Deoband of Saharanpur district by throwing wine bottles into a mosque during fajar prayer time. It is said that two motorcycle- borne persons came on their bike and threw bottles in the mosque in which one person identified as Zameer Alam got injured in the attack. Local authorities are trying to calm the situation by using services of religious leaders.
The said mosque Chanduwali is situated at the main gate of Darul Uloom Deoband on G T road. In another incident, flesh of animal was found at an Eidgah in Khrrampur village of Behat town which was thrown in evening. Following both incidents, the authorities have issued high alert to police and intelligence agencies in the area.
Sources said the Divisional Commissioner Tanveer Jaffer Ali held a meeting with senior police and civil officials and directed them o deploy police personnel at sensitive places. Police and local administration swung into action to defuse the tension. Local authorities met Darul Uloom reactor Mufti Mohammad Qasim Nomani and Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind (A) president Maulana Arshad Madani seeking their help in calming the situation. Both have appealed Muslims to have patience. However, both the communities – say Hindu and Muslims – showed sincerity and appealed people to maintain calm.
Students of the India’s largest Islamic seminary, Darul Uloom, were agitated over the incident, but the Muslim ulema appealed for calm. On the appeal of Uelma, people cleaned the mosque. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Saharanpur Dr Dharam Veer Singh said Police began search of anti-social elements involved in the attack and stern action will be taken against them. Police have arrested on teenager involved in the attack but could not slap NSA against him because of his age.
